My Little Pony: Equestria Girls is an animated web series from Canada and the United States. It's based on Hasbro's popular My Little Pony: Equestria Girls toy line and media. This series is a spin-off from the My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic TV show.

The story follows the main characters from My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, but they are reimagined as human teenagers. They go to high school and have many adventures. The series first started on YouTube on November 17, 2017. The first season had a special theme: "Better Together."

The series finished its run after its second season on June 23, 2020. This happened after DHX Media Vancouver, the company that helped make it, stopped working on the show in 2019.

Making the Series

This series introduced new clothes and styles for the main characters. A famous fashion stylist named Laura Schuffman designed these new looks for the girls.

In January 2020, YouTube changed its rules for videos made for kids. This change happened after YouTube was fined by the United States Federal Trade Commission in September 2019. The fine was because of a law called the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), which helps protect kids' privacy online.

Because of these new rules, creators had to mark their videos (or whole channels) as being for children. When a video was marked for kids, some features on YouTube, like interactive parts, were limited. This affected the "You Choose the Ending" shorts in the series.

There were plans for a third season and a proper ending for the series. However, these plans were canceled by Hasbro. A writer for the show, Nick Confalone, shared this news on Twitter in March 2021.
