My Little Pony: The Princess Promenade is an animated musical movie from 2006. It was released directly to DVD and tells a fun fantasy story for families. The film was made by SD Entertainment and released by Paramount Home Entertainment with Hasbro.

This movie is the second big film in the third version of the My Little Pony series. It was also the first movie to introduce the "Crystal Princess" toy line. In this film, you'll meet the tiny Breezies for the first time. You'll also see a new look for Spike the dragon, who was first in the My Little Pony shows from the 1980s.

The Princess Promenade was very popular and got good reviews. It was the most successful My Little Pony animation until My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic came out later. Many fans who collect "G3" My Little Pony toys really like this movie. It has been enjoyed by many since its DVD release in 2006. The DVD also includes two extra episodes: A Charming Birthday and Pinkie Pie and the Ladybug Jamboree. This movie is also special because it was shown to Lauren Faust, who later created the popular My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic series.

The movie was re-released in a 2-disc DVD collection called My Little Pony: Classic Movie Collection. This collection also includes The Runaway Rainbow, Dancing in the Clouds, and Friends are Never Far Away. On August 8, 2014, the film aired on the Hub Network as part of a "My Little Pony Mega Mare-athon." This special event was watched by 5.4 million viewers.

Story of The Princess Promenade

The Spring Promenade is a big event that the ponies are getting ready for. The tiny Breezies are helping them prepare. But a tricky weed causes Wysteria and Pinkie Pie to fall into a secret cave. Inside, they find Spike the dragon, who has been sleeping for a thousand years!

Spike wakes up and makes Wysteria a princess. However, Wysteria soon learns that being a princess isn't just about fancy titles. It's much more important to be true to yourself and help your friends.

Wysteria
Voiced by: Tabitha St. Germain

Wysteria is an Earth pony with a purple body and a colorful mane and tail. Her special symbol, called a cutie mark, is wisteria flowers. She is Ponyville's gardener and helps organize the Spring Promenade. Wysteria loves flowers and is very good at gardening. She can be a bit shy, but she always finds a way to make things fun.

After she accidentally woke Spike the dragon, she became Princess Wysteria, the Princess of Ponyville. But she felt sad because being a princess meant following many rules. She watched her friends doing all the hard work for the parade. Wysteria then convinced Spike to help with the Spring Promenade. After it was a success, she made all her friends princesses too!

Pinkie Pie
Voiced by: Janyse Jaud

Pinkie Pie is a pink Earth pony with a light pink mane and tail. Her cutie mark is three balloons. She is very imaginative, friendly, and loves to have fun. Sometimes, she even takes the lead in different situations. Pinkie Pie loves planning big parties and anything pink. She also enjoys spending time with Minty, even though Minty can be a bit clumsy.

Rainbow Dash
Voiced by: Venus Terzo

Rainbow Dash is a sky blue Earth pony with a rainbow-colored mane and tail. Her cutie mark is a rainbow on the clouds. She is one of the most grown-up ponies and is very stylish. Rainbow Dash cares a lot about her friends, sometimes even more than her own looks. She can get a little worried sometimes. She often speaks with a British accent and likes to add the word "darling" to her sentences.

Minty
Voiced by: Tabitha St. Germain

Minty is a mint green Earth pony with a pink mane and tail. Her cutie mark is three swirled mint candies. Minty loves anything green and enjoys collecting socks. She also likes standing on her head and playing checkers with Sweetberry. Minty is known for being clumsy. She often trips or crashes into things, sometimes breaking them.

Spike
Voiced by: Brian Drummond

Spike is a dragon with blue and orange scales. He lives deep under the Celebration Castle in Ponyville. Wysteria woke him up from a 1000-year sleep. Spike explained that whoever touched the flower he was holding would become the Princess of Ponyville. That's how Wysteria became a princess. Spike is very wise and often gives the ponies good advice.

Razaroo is a purple Earth pony with a colorful mane and tail. Her cutie mark is a wrapped gift. She is Ponyville's party planner and uses her "Birthday Book" to plan everyone's special day.

Kimono
Voiced by: Kathleen Barr

Kimono is a pinkish-purple Earth pony with a dark purple mane and tail. Her cutie mark is two Japanese lanterns. She is the wise pony of Ponyville and knows all the pony legends and stories. Ponies often ask her for advice because she is so knowledgeable.

Sweetberry
Voiced by Kathleen Barr

Sweetberry is a magenta Earth pony with a purple, green, and white mane and tail. Her cutie mark is two strawberries and a white flower. She owns the Sweetberry Sweet Shoppe and also works at the Cotton Candy Cafe. Sweetberry loves to help her friends and make delicious sweet treats.

Cotton Candy
Voiced by Kelly Sheridan

Cotton Candy is a pink Earth pony with a blue, light pink, and white mane and tail. Her cutie mark is a cone of cotton candy. She owns the Cotton Candy Cafe, where she serves ice cream and sundaes. Cotton Candy also loves to tell stories and chat with her friends.

Sparkleworks
Voiced by Venus Terzo

Sparkleworks is an orange Earth pony with a pink mane and tail. Her cutie mark is colorful fireworks. She is a very sparkly pony with a big imagination. She can make every day an adventure. Sparkleworks loves glittery things.

Sunny Daze
Voiced by Adrienne Carter

Sunny Daze is a white Earth pony with a yellow, pink, orange, and purple mane and tail. Her cutie mark is a smiling sun. She is a brave and athletic pony who loves outdoor activities and bright colors.

Daffidazey
Voiced by: Ellen Kennedy

Daffidazey is a white Earth pony with a colorful mane and tail. Her cutie mark is a flower with green leaves. She is Ponyville's hair stylist and runs the Twist n' Style Petal Parlor. Daffidazey loves cleanliness and is very good at styling hair.

Zipzee

Zipzee is a yellow Breezy with antennae and an orange and yellow mane and tail. Her cutie mark is two flowers. She is often seen with Tiddly Wink and Tra La La. Zipzee is allergic to pollen and flowers, which makes her sneeze a lot. But she still loves the smell of spring!

Tiddly Wink

Tiddly Wink is a purple Breezy with a pink antenna and a dark purple and pink mane and tail. Her cutie mark is a purple flower. She is usually with Zipzee and Tra La La.

Tra La La

Tra La La is a light pink Breezy with a pink antenna and a pink mane and tail. Her cutie mark is a pink flower. She is always seen with Tiddly Wink and Zipzee.

A Charming Birthday

The DVD includes another animated story called A Charming Birthday. This story was first released on VHS in 2003. It shows how the ponies in Ponyville planned a special surprise party for Kimono.

Pinkie Pie and the Ladybug Jamboree

The DVD also has a short animated story called Pinkie Pie and the Ladybug Jamboree. This short was made especially for The Princess Promenade DVD. It takes place after The Princess Promenade and before The Runaway Rainbow. It explains how Pinkie Pie's band, "Pinkie Pie's Ladybug Jamboree," came to be.

Storybook and Comic Adaptations

A storybook version of the film was written by Nora Pelizzari. It was published by HarperFestival on January 3, 2006. A comic book version was also released by Tokyopop in 2006.

How the Movie Inspired Others

Lauren Faust, who created the popular My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic TV show, said that she used some ideas from The Princess Promenade when she was developing her new series. Hasbro Studios thought Faust's style would be perfect for a new My Little Pony show. They asked her to think about "some ideas where to take a new version of the franchise."
