My Scene was a popular line of fashion dolls created by Mattel. They first came out in 2002. These dolls were made to be trendy and stylish, showing off city life and fashion.
My Scene dolls were sold in the United States until 2008. They continued to be sold in other parts of the world until 2011, when Mattel stopped making them completely. One of the dolls in the My Scene line was even the famous Barbie character! My Scene dolls had a unique look with larger heads and "exaggerated lips and bulging, makeup-caked eyes," as described by The New York Times. They were designed to appeal to kids aged 10-12 and compete with the popular Bratz dolls.
About the Dolls
Mattel launched My Scene dolls in the fall of 2002. They wanted to compete with the Bratz dolls from MGA Entertainment. The first My Scene series had three main girl characters: Barbie, Madison, and Chelsea. Each doll came with two extra outfits. Over time, more dolls were added to the group.
Most of the characters were named after places in New York City. In 2003, Nolee joined the girls, along with three boy characters: Bryant, River, and Hudson. Later, Delancey and Ellis also appeared. Kenzie was introduced in 2004, and Nia in 2008.
Today, the main My Scene characters are Kennedy, Madison, Chelsea, Delancey, Nia, Hudson, and River. Some characters, like Barbie, Nolee, Kenzie, Bryant, Ellis, and Sutton, were later discontinued. There were also special edition dolls like Lindsay, Jai, Tyson, and Ryan. Many of the My Scene dolls, both girls and boys, also had their own pets!
Doll Features
The girl My Scene dolls had a special body shape. They had a small nose, wide cheekbones, and full lips. Some dolls, especially from the "Night on the Town" line, even had rooted eyelashes and glittery eyes! Like Bratz dolls, My Scene dolls had large shoes that acted as their feet. But they could also wear regular Barbie shoes. The boy dolls also had their own unique faces.
In 2004, Mattel tried out new smiling faces for both the boy and girl dolls. These smiling faces didn't last long for the girls, but the boys kept them until early 2005. After that, the dolls went back to non-smiling faces that looked more like the "Bratz Boyz" dolls.
In late 2005, the "My Bling Bling" line came out, giving the dolls a more glamorous eye look. In mid-2006, Barbie was replaced by a new character named Kennedy in the "Fab Faces" line.
Later, in 2006, Mattel introduced even more new face molds for the girl dolls. Some had a half-open smile, and others had a closed smirk. In 2007, the "Growing Up Glam" dolls were released. These dolls had a special key on their back that could make them grow taller!
Mattel stopped selling My Scene dolls in the US in 2008. The dolls were still sold internationally until Mattel completely stopped making them in 2011.

Films
Mattel released three My Scene films between 2004 and 2005. They even aired on the Nickelodeon TV channel. These films sometimes introduced special edition dolls, like Jai and Tyson from Jammin' in Jamaica, and Ryan Ridley and Lindsay Lohan from My Scene Goes Hollywood. Mattel even got special permission to create a doll that looked just like Lindsay Lohan!
My Scene: Jammin' in Jamaica (2004)
This movie came out on DVD in May 2004. It's about Madison managing a band called Urban Desire, made up of the boy characters. When the band wins a contest, they go to Jamaica for the finals. The girls have to raise money to join them. Once everyone is in Jamaica, Barbie feels left out because her boyfriend, the lead guitarist, spends more time with Madison. This causes a small fight between the friends, but they work it out in the end.
My Scene: Masquerade Madness (2004)
This shorter film was released on DVD in June 2004. It's about a fashion show called "Masquerade Madness," which is a fundraiser for an animal shelter. Chelsea designs all the outfits herself, which makes her schoolwork difficult. She's too embarrassed to tell her friends, so she gets help from Hudson with her geometry. This makes her friends think they are secretly dating! In the end, Chelsea does great on her test and puts on a successful fashion show.
My Scene Goes Hollywood: The Movie (2005)
This was the only full-length My Scene movie and was sold separately from the dolls. It came out on DVD in August 2005 and featured the voice of actress Lindsay Lohan playing herself. The story follows the My Scene girls as they pretend to be extras in a spy movie being filmed in New York City. When an actress gets hurt, Madison gets to take her place! She starts spending less time with her friends and develops a crush on the lead actor, Ryan Ridley. Madison and her friends have a fight, but Lindsay Lohan helps Madison realize that friends are the most important thing. Even though the title says "Hollywood," the movie actually takes place in New York City.
Web Series
My Scene also had a web series that ran from 2002 to 2008 on the official My Scene website. The theme song was "It's My Scene."
"My Scene webisodes" (2002-2008)
There were 30 episodes released online. The last 10 episodes didn't feature Barbie and Nolee because they were no longer part of the doll line.
