Myck Lukusa Kabongo (born January 12, 1992) is a former professional basketball player from Congo and Canada. He now works as an assistant coach and player development coach for the Salt Lake City Stars in the NBA G League. Before turning pro, he played college basketball for the Texas Longhorns. Myck also played for the DR Congo national team in international games, like AfroBasket 2017.

High School Basketball Journey
Myck started playing high school basketball in Toronto, Canada. He later moved to Findlay Prep in Henderson, Nevada, a well-known school for young basketball players. Myck was considered one of the top high school players in 2011. He was even chosen to play in the famous McDonald's All-American Game and the Jordan Brand Classic. These games feature the best high school players in the country.
Choosing a College Team
Myck decided to play for the Texas Longhorns on January 12, 2009. He changed his mind briefly in 2010 but then recommitted and signed his official letter to play for Texas.
College Basketball Career
Myck began playing for the Texas Longhorns in the 2011–12 season. During his time there, he faced a suspension for 23 games due to rules about contact with agents. After his suspension, he played well, averaging 14.6 points per game in 11 games.
In April 2013, Myck decided to enter the NBA draft. This meant he would leave college two years early to try and become a professional player.
Professional Basketball Career
Myck was not chosen in the 2013 NBA draft, but he still got a chance to play. He joined the Miami Heat for the 2013 NBA Summer League. Later, he signed with the San Antonio Spurs but was waived before the season started.
He then joined the Austin Toros in the NBA Development League (now called the NBA G League). Over the years, Myck played for many different teams in the NBA G League, including the Fort Wayne Mad Ants, Texas Legends, and Erie BayHawks.
Myck also played basketball in other countries. He played for BCM U Pitești in Romania in 2016. In 2018, he played for Zornotza ST in Spain and STB Le Havre in France. He returned to Canada to play for the Guelph Nighthawks in 2019. Later that year, he joined the Svendborg Rabbits in Denmark.
In 2020, Myck played for Akademija FMP in Macedonia. In 2021, he joined Ferroviário de Maputo from Mozambique to play in the Basketball Africa League (BAL). He was a key player for his team, helping them reach the quarterfinals.
Later in 2021, Myck played for Al-Rayyan in Qatar. He had an amazing game where he scored 42 points and had 11 assists! In December 2021, he joined the Cape Town Tigers from South Africa for the BAL qualification games. He also played for the Scarborough Shooting Stars in Canada in 2023 and 2024.
Playing for His Country
Myck represented the DR Congo men's national basketball team at the AfroBasket 2017 tournament. He was one of the top players in the tournament for assists (4.8 per game) and steals (2.8 per game).
He was also invited to try out for the Canada men's national basketball team in 2013 but did not make the final team.
Amateur Basketball
Myck played for a team called Overseas Elite in an annual tournament called The Basketball Tournament. He was a point guard on the team that won the $1 million prize in 2015!
Coaching Career
On October 4, 2024, Myck started a new chapter in his basketball journey. He was hired as an assistant coach and player development coach for the Salt Lake City Stars in the NBA G League.
Personal Life
Myck Kabongo was born in Lubumbashi, a city in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. He has four brothers, including the actor Emmanuel Kabongo, and one sister. In the 1990s, Myck and his family moved to Toronto, Canada.
