Myerstown's Early Days: A Look at Its History
Myerstown began on December 24, 1757. A man named Isaac Meier and his wife, Catherine, bought a large piece of land, about 249 acres (1.01 km2). They built their home on South College Street.
By 1763, Isaac Meier started selling parts of his land. He planned to create a town. He named it Tulpehocken Town. This name came from the Tulpehocken Creek, which flows through the area.
Sadly, Isaac Meier was shot and killed on July 14, 1770. After he died, the people of Tulpehocken Town started calling it Meier's Town. This was to honor him.
The historic Isaac Meier Homestead is still standing today. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. This means it's an important historical site.
