Myngle is an online service that helps people learn new languages. It's based in the Netherlands and offers one-on-one lessons with teachers through a special online classroom. This makes it easy for students to connect with language experts from all over the world.
How Myngle Started
Myngle was launched in December 2007. The idea came from its founder, Marina Tognetti. She wanted to learn Chinese but found it hard to find good teachers nearby. She also needed a flexible way to study because of her busy work schedule.
Marina realized that technology could help. She thought, "What if students could take language lessons from teachers anywhere in the world?" This idea led her to create Myngle. She left her job at eBay, where she had worked for four years, to start her new company.
How Myngle Works
Myngle uses special tools for learning together online. This includes VoIP, which lets you talk to your teacher over the internet. It also has an online whiteboard where you and your teacher can write or draw things. Myngle also offers ways to get feedback and connect with a learning community.
Myngle's Funding
In March 2009, Myngle received €950,000 (about $1.25 million) as a loan from Rabobank. The Dutch government supported this loan through a special program for new ideas. This was Myngle's second time getting money to grow. Before this, Myngle had secured €800,000 from a fund called HenQ and other private investors.
Myngle's Awards
Myngle has won several awards for its innovative approach to language learning:
- Named one of the Top 5 Start-up Media companies in the Netherlands by FEM Business in June 2009.
- Won the People's Choice Award at the Plugg Conference in March 2009.
- Recognized as the Best ICT Company at the European Venture Summit in December 2008.
- Received the Accenture Innovation award in October 2008.
