Myron Alan White (born August 1, 1957 – died August 4, 2018) was an American baseball player. He played as an outfielder for the Los Angeles Dodgers during the 1978 baseball season. An outfielder is a player who fields in the outer part of the baseball field.
Early Life and High School Sports
Myron White grew up in Long Beach, California. Before playing professional baseball, he was a talented football player. He played as a running back at Santa Ana Valley High School. During his high school career, he ran for an amazing 4,194 yards. At that time, this was a record for Orange County.
Professional Baseball Career
Myron White was very good at both football and baseball. He was even offered a football scholarship to UCLA. However, he chose to play baseball professionally.
In 1975, the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team chose him in the second round of the player draft. Being "drafted" means a team picks a player to join their organization. The Dodgers also gave him a signing bonus of $60,000. This is a special payment given to a player when they sign their first professional contract.
Myron White played in the Dodgers' minor league system from 1975 to 1981. Minor league teams help young players get ready for the major leagues. He finally made his major league debut with the Los Angeles Dodgers on September 4, 1978. He played his last major league game on October 1, 1978.
Later Life and Passing
Myron White had three daughters. Later in his life, he faced health challenges. He passed away on August 4, 2018, in Cabazon, California. His death was due to complications from diabetes.
