Karen Marie Aagaard Ørsted Andersen (born 13 August 1988), who is known by her stage name MØ, is a Danish singer and songwriter. She is famous for her unique electronic pop music and powerful voice.
MØ became known worldwide for her work on hit songs. She sang on the Major Lazer and DJ Snake song "Lean On" in 2015. This song was a huge international success. It reached number one in many countries. She also sang on another Major Lazer hit, "Cold Water," with Justin Bieber in 2016.

Early Life and Musical Beginnings
MØ was born in Ubberud, a town near Odense in Denmark. Her father is a psychologist and her mother is a teacher. She has an older brother named Kasper.
Her love for music started when she was seven years old, thanks to the pop group the Spice Girls. As a teenager, she got into punk music. She listened to bands like Black Flag, Nirvana, and Sonic Youth. She saw Kim Gordon from Sonic Youth as a hero.
Before she was famous, MØ was in a punk duo called MOR with her friend Josefine Struckmann Pedersen. They released two EPs together before the group ended in 2012.

The name MØ comes from the first letters of her middle and last names (Marie Ørsted). In Danish, the word mø means "maiden," which is an old word for a young woman. Her grandfather was an artist who signed his paintings with his initials, which inspired her to do the same.
