Mónica Ramírez is an American activist, writer, and lawyer. She works to protect the rights of people, especially farmworkers and immigrant women. She speaks out for those who need a voice.

Early Life and Education

Mónica Ramírez grew up in Fremont, Ohio. She went to Loyola University Chicago and graduated in 1999. Later, she studied law at Ohio State University Moritz College of Law. In 2014, she earned a special degree in Public Administration from Harvard University.

Helping Others and Making a Difference

Mónica Ramírez has spent her career helping people. She started a project that grew into "Esperanza: The Immigrant Women's Legal Initiative." This project helped immigrant women with legal issues. She led this group for almost seven years.

From 2012 to 2014, Mónica also worked for Centro de los Derechos del Migrante, Inc. This was the first group based in Mexico that helped migrant workers across borders.

Mónica also helped create the Alianza Nacional de Campesinas. This group is a national alliance for farmworker women. It works to support and empower them. She also worked for the Labor Council for Latin American Advancement. There, she helped create a program to support Latina workers in the U.S.

In 2019, Mónica co-founded The Latinx House. This is a special place for the Latino community. It celebrates Latino achievements in movies and entertainment. The Latinx House first opened at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival.

The "Dear Sisters" Letter

In November 2017, Mónica Ramírez wrote an important letter called "Dear Sisters." It was published in Time magazine. This letter was from the Alianza Nacional de Campesinas. It showed support for women who had experienced unfair treatment. The letter became very popular. It helped start the TIME’S UP movement, which fights against harassment and unfairness.

In 2018, Mónica was a special guest at the 75th Golden Globe Awards. She attended with actress Laura Dern.

The "Querida Familia" Letter

In August 2019, Mónica Ramírez helped organize another important letter. It was called "Querida Familia" (Dear Family). This letter was written to the Latino community and their supporters. It was written after a terrible shooting in El Paso, Texas, and after immigration raids in Mississippi.
