Nadeau is a small, unincorporated community located in Menominee County, Michigan, in the United States. An unincorporated community means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Nadeau is found within Nadeau Township. It sits right along US Highway 41 and the Canadian National Railway. This community is about 1.5 miles (2.4 km) north of another place called Carney. A Look Back in Time: Nadeau's History
The community of Nadeau started as a farm owned by a person named Barney Nadeau. This is how the place got its name!
How Nadeau Grew
- In 1878, a railway company called the Chicago and North Western Railway opened a train station in this growing community. This was a big deal because trains helped people and goods travel.
- Soon after, a post office was also opened in Nadeau. At first, it was accidentally named "Nadean."
- Barney Nadeau, the original farmer, became the first postmaster. He was in charge of the mail!
- On February 20, 1890, the name of the post office was officially changed to the correct spelling: Nadeau.
