Naima was born in Detroit, Michigan, USA. Her mom, Theresa Mora, is a jazz singer. Her dad, Francisco Mora Catlett, plays jazz drums. Her grandparents were also famous artists. Her grandma, Elizabeth Catlett, was a sculptor. She even made a sculpture of Naima called Naima.
Naima's dad is part Mexican and part African-American. Her mom is Irish and African-American. Naima has five sisters. Her identical twin sister, Nia, is a photographer. Naima was named after a famous jazz song.
Naima grew up in Detroit. She went to Cass Technical High School. She was a serious ballet student. She studied ballet at Detroit's Ballet Renaissance.
Beliefs and Inspiration
Naima practices Nichiren Buddhism. She is an active member of a group called Soka Gakkai International. In 2013, she gave a TEDx Talk. She talked about her childhood and how Buddhism helped her career.
Winning America's Next Top Model
Naima was one of the top fourteen contestants. She competed on the TV show America's Next Top Model, Cycle 4. During the show, she was very successful. She was voted Covergirl of the Week ten times in a row. She also won four challenges.
