Naoki Matsuyo (松代 直樹, Matsuyo Naoki, born April 9, 1974) is a former Japanese football player. He was a talented goalkeeper known for his long career with the club Gamba Osaka. Matsuyo played for Gamba Osaka for 13 years, from 1997 until he retired in 2009. He helped his team win several important championships, including the J1 League and the 2008 AFC Champions League.

Naoki Matsuyo's Football Journey
Naoki Matsuyo was born in Nara, Japan, on April 9, 1974. He loved football from a young age. After finishing his studies at Tenri University, he joined the professional football club Gamba Osaka in 1997. This team plays in the J1 League, which is Japan's top football league.
Starting His Professional Career
When Matsuyo first joined Gamba Osaka, it was tough to get playing time. There were other experienced goalkeepers, Hayato Okanaka and Ryota Tsuzuki, ahead of him. He worked hard and waited for his chance.
Becoming a Regular Player
In August 2002, Matsuyo finally got his big break. He became the main goalkeeper for Gamba Osaka. He played many matches and showed his skills. However, in August 2005, he got injured. Another goalkeeper, Yosuke Fujigaya, joined the team that season and took over his spot.
Battling for the Goalkeeper Position
From 2005 onwards, Matsuyo often competed with Fujigaya for the starting goalkeeper position. Even though he didn't always play every game, he was a very important part of the team. His club achieved great success during these years.
Team Achievements and Championships
Gamba Osaka won many titles with Matsuyo on the team. They became champions of the J1 League in 2005. They also won the 2007 J.League Cup and the 2008 Emperor's Cup.
In 2008, Gamba Osaka made history by winning the 2008 AFC Champions League. This was the first time the club had won Asia's biggest club competition. It was a huge moment for the team and its fans.
His Last Match and Retirement
In the 2009 Emperor's Cup, Matsuyo's team reached the final. He didn't play in most of the matches that season. But for the final game, the main goalkeeper, Fujigaya, became ill. This gave Matsuyo a chance to play. He stepped onto the field for the final match, and Gamba Osaka won the championship! This special game was his very last as a professional player. He retired from football at the end of the 2009 season.
