Naomi Pomeroy (1974 – July 13, 2024) was a talented chef and restaurant owner. She was known for her amazing cooking skills and for opening popular restaurants.

Early Life and Learning

Naomi Pomeroy started cooking at a very young age. She once shared that she began cooking when she was just three years old. By the time she was four, she had already created her first recipe! She went to Lewis & Clark College and finished her studies in 1997. She earned a degree in history there.

A Chef's Journey

Naomi Pomeroy did not go to a special cooking school. Instead, she learned by watching other professionals in the food world. She picked up her skills by observing and practicing.

In 2007, she opened her own restaurant called Beast in Portland, Oregon. Before Beast, she helped start other places like Gotham Tavern, Gotham Coffee shop, and Clarklewis. In 2013, a magazine called Working Mother wrote about Naomi. The article talked about her life as a working single parent.

Naomi also appeared on television. In 2010, she was on the show Iron Chef. She also was a guest judge on the TV series Knife Fight in 2014. In 2013, she gave a talk at TedxPortland, sharing her ideas and experiences.

Her first cookbook, Taste & Technique: Recipes to Elevate Your Home Cooking, came out in 2016. It was published by Ten Speed Press.

Restaurant Changes

Naomi's restaurant, Beast, closed in 2020. This happened during the COVID-19 pandemic. After Beast closed, Naomi used the same space for a new business. It was called Ripe Cooperative. This place was a marketplace where people could buy food. It also sold meal kits that customers could finish cooking at home. Ripe Cooperative operated until 2022.

In 2023, Naomi Pomeroy was a guest judge on season 2 of the cooking show Bobby's Triple Threat.

Awards and Praise

Naomi Pomeroy received many honors for her work. In 2009, Food & Wine magazine named her one of America's Top 10 Best New Chefs.

In 2010, Marie Claire magazine recognized her as one of the 18 Most Powerful Women in Business. O, The Oprah Magazine also featured her. They named her one of the Top 10 Women on the Rise for 2010.

A big achievement for Naomi came in 2014. She won the James Beard Foundation Award for Best Chef Northwest. This is a very important award in the food world.

Passing Away

Naomi Pomeroy passed away on July 13, 2024. She died in an accident on the Willamette River.
