Naomi Smalls is the stage name of Davis M. Heppenstall (born September 8, 1993). He is an American drag performer and reality television star. He is famous for being one of the top contestants on RuPaul's Drag Race season eight. He also did very well on RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars season four.
Early Life and Background
Davis M. Heppenstall was born on September 8, 1993. His birthplace was Fresno, California. Later, he was adopted in Redlands. He grew up with a big family. He has eight brothers and three sisters. Many of his siblings were also adopted.
Becoming Naomi Smalls
The name Naomi Smalls is a mix of two famous people. It comes from supermodel Naomi Campbell. It also comes from the rapper Biggie Smalls. This stage name helps create her unique drag persona.
Competing on RuPaul's Drag Race
Naomi Smalls joined RuPaul's Drag Race season eight. This was announced on February 1, 2016. She was the youngest contestant that season, at 21 years old.
In one challenge called "Snatch Game", she had to pretend to be someone famous. She played Tiffany Pollard. This challenge put her in the bottom two. She then had to "lip sync" against another contestant. She won the lip sync and stayed in the competition.
The next week, she won a makeover challenge. She designed an outfit for a cast member from Little Women: LA. Naomi Smalls made it to the final three. She finished as a runner-up, tying with Kim Chi.
Returning for All Stars
Naomi Smalls came back for season four. This was announced on November 8, 2018. She did very well in the first few episodes.
She was in the bottom again during a "roast" challenge. But she won another lip sync battle. This helped her stay in the competition. She won another makeover challenge. This made her the first queen to win two makeover challenges across her seasons. She reached the final again. She finished as a runner-up with Monique Heart. She is the first contestant to be a runner-up in both of her seasons.
Life After Drag Race
After her time on Drag Race, Naomi Smalls stayed busy. She co-hosted an internet show called M.U.G. with Kim Chi. They talked about different drag queens' makeup looks. She also appeared on "Fashion Photo RuView" often.
In February 2018, she interviewed Cardi B for Cosmopolitan magazine. She also started her own YouTube series called Small's World. In this show, she shares her life while touring. The first episode came out on February 16, 2018.
In September 2019, she joined RuPaul's Drag Race Live!. This is a live show in Las Vegas. She is one of many Drag Race queens who perform there. She is also very popular on social media. As of October 2021, she had over 1.6 million followers on Instagram. In 2024, she was part of Painting with Raven. This is a spin-off show from Painted with Raven.
Naomi Smalls also released her own music. Her first song, "Pose", had a music video released on December 16, 2018. She also appeared in Manila Luzon's music video for "Go Fish".
