What Happened in Naraha?
Naraha was greatly affected by a huge natural disaster. On March 11, 2011, a massive earthquake and tsunami hit the Tōhoku region of Japan. This event caused a serious accident at the nearby Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant.
Moving the Town Offices
Because of the disaster and the nuclear accident, many people had to leave Naraha for safety. The town's offices, which help run the town, had to move.
- First, the offices moved to Iwaki, Fukushima.
- Then, on March 25, 2011, they moved again to Aizumisato, Fukushima. This was to make sure the town could still operate and help its residents even when they were away from their homes.
Returning Home to Naraha
After many years, efforts were made to clean up and make Naraha safe again. People slowly started to return to their homes. This process took a long time, but it showed the strength and hope of the community.
