Narinder Dhami grew up in a home with two different cultures. Her father was an immigrant from the Punjab region of India, and her mother was English. This mix of Indian and Western cultures greatly influenced her life.

She went to Wolverhampton Girls' High School and later studied at Birmingham University. She finished her university studies in 1980.

Becoming an Author

Narinder Dhami first worked as a teacher for nine years. She taught in both primary and secondary schools in places like Essex and Waltham Forest in London.

While teaching, she started writing stories for magazines aimed at teenagers. She wrote many photo-stories for a popular magazine called Jackie.

Eventually, she decided to become a full-time writer. She loves writing realistic stories about young people growing up in Britain today. Her characters often show the diverse mix of people living in British cities.

Narinder Dhami has written many popular books for different age groups.

  • The Babes Quartet: This series is very popular with girls aged 9 to 14. It's about three British Asian girls and their adventures.
  • Bend It Like Beckham: One of her most famous and best-selling books is a novel based on the popular film Bend It Like Beckham.
