Nataša Pirc Musar (born May 9, 1968) is a Slovenian lawyer and writer. She became the 5th President of Slovenia in 2022. She is the first woman to hold this important position.
Before becoming president, she was the Information commissioner for ten years (2004–2014). She also worked as a journalist and was the president of the Slovenian Red Cross. She is well-known for her work on freedom of information and privacy rights. She also represented famous people in legal cases, including Melania Trump.

Early Life and Education
Nataša Pirc Musar studied law at the University of Ljubljana in Slovenia. She graduated in 1992. After passing her bar exam in 1997, she started working as a journalist.
She worked for six years at Television Slovenia. There, she hosted the main news program. Later, she presented the news program 24UR on POP TV for five years. She also trained at CNN in Atlanta. She continued her studies in England at the University of Salford. During this time, she interned at major news channels like BBC and Sky News.
In 2015, she earned her PhD from the University of Vienna. Her studies focused on how to balance privacy rights with the public's right to information.
Legal and Business Career
In 2003, Pirc Musar joined the Supreme Court of Slovenia. She became the director of their Center for Education and Information.
Her most famous role was as the Commissioner for Access to Public Information. She held this job from 2004 to 2014. In this role, she helped make sure people could get information from the government. She also worked with the European Union on privacy matters.
After her time as Information Commissioner, she started her own law firm. Her firm, Pirc Musar & Lemut Strle, represented important clients. This included Melania Trump, the wife of former U.S. president Donald Trump.
From 2010 to 2021, she was often named one of the top ten most influential lawyers in Slovenia. She also helped create an association called OnaVe. This group connects female experts and promotes sharing knowledge. From 2015 to 2016, she led the Slovenian Red Cross.
Nataša Pirc Musar has written several books. These books are about freedom of information and privacy. She has written them in Slovenian, English, and Croatian.
Political Career
On June 23, 2022, Nataša Pirc Musar announced she would run for President of Slovenia. She ran as an independent candidate. This means she was not part of a political party.
Two former presidents of Slovenia, Milan Kučan and Danilo Türk, supported her. Other parties like the Pirate Party also backed her.
In the first round of the 2022 Slovenian presidential election in October 2022, she came in second place. This meant she moved on to the second round. In the final election on November 13, she won against Anže Logar. This made her the first female president of Slovenia.
Personal Life
Nataša Pirc Musar is married to businessman Aleš Musar. They have one son. Her husband owns a property known as the "Russian dacha." They also own a special Rolls-Royce Phantom VI car. This car was made in 1971 for Princess Alexandra, The Honourable Lady Ogilvy, who is a cousin of Queen Elizabeth II.
