Nataša Pirc Musar (born May 9, 1968) is a Slovenian lawyer, writer, and politician. She has been the 5th President of Slovenia since December 23, 2022. She is the first woman to hold this important position.
Before becoming president, Nataša Pirc Musar was known for her work as the Information Commissioner of Slovenia from 2004 to 2014. In this role, she helped make sure people could access public information and protected their privacy. She also worked as a journalist and was the president of the Slovenian Red Cross for a time.
She is also famous for her legal work, especially for defending people's right to information. She represented important clients, including Melania Trump, who was the First Lady of the United States.

Early Life and Education
Nataša Pirc Musar studied law at the University of Ljubljana in Slovenia. She finished her studies in 1992. After that, she worked as a journalist and host for six years at Radiotelevizija Slovenija, which is a big TV and radio company. She also hosted the main news program 24UR on another TV channel called POP TV.
She continued to learn and grow her skills. She trained at CNN in the United States. She also studied at the University of Salford in England. During her time there, she gained experience working at major news organizations like the BBC and Sky News. In 2015, she earned her PhD from the University of Vienna. Her special area of study was how to balance people's right to privacy with the public's right to know information.
Legal and Public Service Career
In 2003, Nataša Pirc Musar started working at the Supreme Court of Slovenia. A year later, in 2004, she became the Commissioner for Access to Public Information. She held this important job for ten years, until 2014. As Information Commissioner, she made sure that government information was available to the public. She also protected people's personal information.
From 2011 to 2014, she was also involved with Europol, which is the European Union's law enforcement agency. She was the vice-president, and later the president, of a group that watched over Europol's work.
After her term as Information Commissioner ended, she started her own law firm. In 2016, her law firm became Pirc Musar & Lemut Strle. Her firm represented many important clients. One of her most well-known clients was Melania Trump, the wife of former US President Donald Trump.
Nataša Pirc Musar was often named one of the top ten most influential lawyers in Slovenia. She also helped start an organization called OnaVe. This group helps connect women experts and encourages sharing knowledge. From 2015 to 2016, she was the president of the Slovenian Red Cross, a charity organization. She has also written several books about freedom of information and privacy.
Political Journey
Becoming President of Slovenia
On June 23, 2022, Nataša Pirc Musar announced that she would run for President of Slovenia. She ran as an independent candidate, meaning she was not part of a political party. She was the first person to announce her candidacy for the 2022 presidential election. Two former presidents of Slovenia, Milan Kučan and Danilo Türk, supported her campaign.
In the first round of the election in October 2022, she came in second place. This meant she would go to a second round of voting, called a run-off. In the second round, held on November 13, 2022, Nataša Pirc Musar won the election. She defeated Anže Logar, who was the candidate from the Slovenian Democratic Party. Her victory made her the first female president in Slovenia's history.
Personal Life
Nataša Pirc Musar is married to a businessman named Aleš Musar. They have one son. Her husband owns a property known as the "Russian dacha." They also own a special car, a Rolls-Royce Phantom VI limousine. This car was made in 1971 and was once owned by Princess Alexandra, The Honourable Lady Ogilvy, who is a cousin of Queen Elizabeth II.
