Early Life and Music
Nathan was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland. When he was 16, he sang in a gospel church choir. This experience made him want to become a musician.
He said that he always wanted to play in a band. He started playing guitar when he was about 12 or 13. At first, he wasn't very good. But then he formed a band with his cousin and friends from school. That's when he started taking music more seriously.
Nathan went to Grosvenor Grammar School.
Musical Journey
Before joining Snow Patrol, Nathan was in a band called File Under Easy Listening, or F.U.E.L. This band was managed by a famous radio DJ, Colin Murray. F.U.E.L. released only one song called "Closure/Dryform." The band did not last very long.
While working at a music store called HMV in Belfast, Nathan met the members of Snow Patrol. He wasn't sure about joining them at first. The band did not even have a record deal at that time. He jokes that his mother thought he "was being kidnapped by rock stars."
Nathan officially joined Snow Patrol in late 2002. His arrival helped change the band's sound. With Nathan helping to write new songs, Snow Patrol got a new record deal. They released their album Final Straw in 2003. This album became a huge success. It helped the band become very popular.
In 2013, Nathan started his own music project called Little Matador.
He also played live with the band Feeder at the Isle of Wight Festival in 2016.
On March 17, 2023, Nathan released a song called "Fires." It featured Simon Neil on vocals. This song was the first single from Nathan's first solo album. His album, called "The Strange Order of Things," was released on April 21, 2023.
Nathan's Life Outside Music
Nathan Connolly lives in County Down, Northern Ireland. He lives there with his fiancé, Sarah Greene. They have one son together.
Sarah Greene also sang backing vocals on Snow Patrol's 2024 album, The Forest Is The Path. Courteney Cox, who is engaged to Snow Patrol's Johnny McDaid, also sang on that album.

Effects Nathan Uses
Nathan uses a special setup for his guitar effects. Many of his effects are kept in a rack.
His rack includes:
- TC Electronic D Two (for delay sounds)
- TC Electronic G Major (for changing sounds, pitch, and compression)
- TC Electronic M One XL (for reverb and layered delay sounds)
- Voodoo Labs GCX Audio Switcher
He also uses different pedals for his overdrive and boost sounds. These can change, but he often uses:
- Ibanez TS9 Tubescreamer
- MXR/Dunlop Micro Amp (for boosting his sound)
- Boss Super Overdrive
- Boss Blues Driver
Nathan uses a Voodoo Labs Ground Control Pro controller. This helps him choose different sounds for each of Snow Patrol's songs. He can add or remove different pedals and change his sound easily.
He also uses a feature in the TC Electronic G Major. This lets him switch channels on his Marshall Jubilee amps for his heaviest sounds.
Nathan has a smaller pedalboard too. It holds his ground control for the rack and some Boss pedals. These include a TU-2, PS-5, DD3, and RC-2.
