Nathan played for the Sharks for two years. In 2005, he had a challenging year in the top grade. However, he was an outstanding player in the lower-grade NSWRL Premier League for Newtown. He scored almost 300 points that year. In one game against the Windsor Wolves, he scored 40 points, including five tries.
He won several awards at Newtown RLFC for his great performance. Because of his excellent play, his old club, South Sydney, offered him a new contract.

He was chosen to play for the Prime Minister's XIII team. They played against the Papua New Guinea Kumuls and won 28–8, with Nathan scoring a try.
