Nathan Peats, born on October 5, 1990, is a former professional rugby league player from Australia. He played as a hooker, which is a key position in rugby league. He finished his career playing for the Tugun Seahawks in the Gold Coast Rugby League.

Nathan played for several big teams in Australia's NRL, including the South Sydney Rabbitohs, Parramatta Eels, and Gold Coast Titans. He also represented special teams like the Indigenous All Stars and played for City Origin and New South Wales in the famous State of Origin series.

Early Life and Background

Nathan Peats was born in Camperdown, New South Wales, Australia. He has both Greek and Indigenous Australian heritage. His father, Geordi Peats, was also a professional rugby league player for the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs and South Sydney Rabbitohs.

Nathan started playing junior rugby league for the La Perouse Panthers. He then moved through the junior teams of the South Sydney Rabbitohs and attended Christian Brothers' High School, Lewisham.

Junior Career

Peats played for the South Sydney Rabbitohs' NYC team in 2009 and 2010. In 2010, he was the team captain and helped them reach the Toyota Cup Grand Final. However, they lost the final to the Junior New Zealand Warriors with a score of 42–28.

Professional Club Career

Starting with South Sydney Rabbitohs

2011: NRL Debut

In 2011, Nathan Peats made his first appearance in the NRL for the South Sydney Rabbitohs. This happened in Round 4 against the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles. He came off the bench in a close 32–30 win. Later that season, in Round 21, he scored his first NRL try against the St. George Illawarra Dragons. South Sydney won that game 34–24 after being far behind. He played 20 matches and scored one try in his first year.

In 2012, Peats played for the Indigenous All Stars team in a special pre-season game. During the NRL season, he was briefly moved to the NSW Cup team, the North Sydney Bears. But he soon returned to the main team and became a regular starting hooker. He played 18 matches and scored five tries that year.

2013: City Origin and Moving Clubs

Peats again played for the Indigenous All Stars in 2013. He also played for the New South Wales City Origin team, starting as hooker in their game against the Country Origin team. Even though he had just signed a new contract with South Sydney, he decided to sign a three-year deal with the Parramatta Eels for the 2014 season. He said it was a tough choice but good for his career. He played 17 matches for South Sydney in 2013.

2014: Strong Start and Injury

In 2014, Peats joined the Parramatta Eels and played in the Auckland Nines tournament. He made his official debut for Parramatta in Round 1, helping them win 36–16 against the New Zealand Warriors. He scored his first try for the Eels in Round 2. He was playing very well and was even considered for the New South Wales State of Origin team. However, in Round 12, he suffered a serious knee injury (ACL) that ended his season early. Despite the injury, he was seen as one of the best new players for the Eels that year. He played 10 matches and scored three tries.

2015: Return and Another Injury

Peats returned to play for the City Origin team in 2015. Unfortunately, in Round 23, he suffered another season-ending injury, this time a neck injury. He scored four tries in his 19 matches for Parramatta that year.

2016: Moving to Gold Coast Titans

In 2016, Peats played for the City Origin team for the third time. Due to financial issues at the Parramatta Eels, Nathan was asked to leave the club to help them manage their player salaries. He then joined the Gold Coast Titans right away. He played six matches and scored one try for Parramatta before leaving. He expressed his disappointment with how things were handled at Parramatta.

He made his debut for the Gold Coast Titans in Round 11, scoring a try in their 28–24 win. He scored two tries in his 14 matches for the Titans that season.

He made 13 appearances in 2019, a tough year for the Titans as they finished last. In 2020, he played eight games before being released by the club.
