Nathan Peats, born on 5 October 1990, is an Australian former professional rugby league player. He played as a hooker, a key position in rugby league, for the Tugun Seahawks in the Gold Coast Rugby League.

Before that, Peats played for several teams in the NRL, including the South Sydney Rabbitohs, Parramatta Eels, and Gold Coast Titans. He also represented special teams like the Indigenous All Stars, City Origin, and New South Wales in the famous State of Origin series.

About Nathan Peats

Nathan Peats was born in Camperdown, New South Wales, Australia. He has both Greek and Indigenous Australian heritage. His father, Geordi Peats, was also a professional rugby league player for the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs and South Sydney Rabbitohs.

Nathan started his rugby league journey playing for the La Perouse Panthers as a junior. He then moved through the junior teams of the South Sydney Rabbitohs and attended Christian Brothers' High School, Lewisham.

Nathan's Club Career Highlights

Nathan Peats played for the South Sydney Rabbitohs' junior team, called the NYC team, from 2009 to 2010. In 2010, he even led the team as captain. They made it to the Grand Final but lost to the Junior New Zealand Warriors.

Starting in the NRL: 2011

In 2011, Nathan played his first game in the NRL for South Sydney against the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles. He came off the bench as a substitute in a close 32–30 win. Later that season, he scored his first NRL try against the St. George Illawarra Dragons. South Sydney made an amazing comeback in that game, winning 34–24 after being far behind. Nathan signed a new contract with South Sydney until the end of 2013. He played 20 matches and scored one try in his first year.

Playing for South Sydney: 2012–2013

In 2012, Nathan played for the Indigenous All Stars team. After a few games, he played some matches for South Sydney's reserve team, the North Sydney Bears. He then returned to the main team and played as a hooker for most of the season. He played 18 matches and scored five tries that year.

In 2013, Nathan again played for the Indigenous All Stars. He also played for the New South Wales City Origin team. In June, he decided to sign a three-year contract with the Parramatta Eels, starting in 2014. It was a big decision for him, as he had been a junior player for Souths. He played 17 matches for South Sydney in 2013.

Moving to Parramatta: 2014–2016

In 2014, Nathan joined the Parramatta Eels and played his first game for them in round 1. He quickly became an important player for the team. In round 2, he scored his first try for Parramatta. Unfortunately, he suffered a serious knee injury in round 12, which ended his season early. Even with the injury, he was seen as one of the best new players that year. He played 10 matches and scored three tries for Parramatta in 2014.

In 2015, Nathan returned to play for the City Origin team. Later in the season, he suffered another injury, this time to his neck, which ended his year. He scored four tries in 19 matches for Parramatta that season.

Joining the Gold Coast Titans: 2016–2020

In May 2016, Nathan played for the City Origin team for the third time. Soon after, he moved to the Gold Coast Titans. This move happened because the Parramatta Eels had some issues with their player payment rules (called the salary cap). To help the team, Nathan agreed to leave and join the Titans. He played six matches and scored one try for Parramatta before moving.

Nathan made his debut for the Gold Coast Titans in round 11, scoring a try in a winning game. He played 14 matches and scored two tries for the Titans in 2016.

State of Origin Debut: 2017

In 2017, Nathan played for the Indigenous All Stars again. He also made his big debut for the New South Wales Blues in the famous State of Origin series. This is a huge achievement for any rugby league player. He then signed a new contract with the Gold Coast Titans until the end of the 2020 season.

Later Years with Titans: 2018–2020

In 2018, Nathan played 20 games for the Gold Coast Titans. The team finished 14th and did not make the finals. He was not chosen for the State of Origin team that year.

In 2019, Nathan played his 150th NRL game. This is a big milestone for any player. He played 13 matches for the Titans that year. The team had a tough season, winning only 4 games and finishing last, which is known as getting the "wooden spoon."

In 2020, Nathan played eight games for the Gold Coast Titans. After the season, he left the club.

Playing in Europe: 2021–2023

In March 2021, Nathan signed with the Leigh Centurions team in the Super League in England. In July 2021, he moved to the Huddersfield Giants on a loan deal for the rest of the season. He scored his first try for Huddersfield in a win against Hull F.C. Later in 2021, he signed with Racing Club Albi XIII in France.

In 2022, Nathan signed a two-year deal with Toulouse Olympique in France. However, later that year, he asked to leave the club to rejoin the Huddersfield Giants for the 2023 season.

In September 2023, Nathan Peats announced that he would be retiring from professional rugby league at the end of the 2023 Super League season.

International Games

On 25 June 2021, Nathan played for the Combined Nations All Stars team. They won their game against England. This game was part of England's preparation for the 2021 Rugby League World Cup.

After Retirement

In December 2024, it was reported that Nathan Peats took on a new role as the Community Development Officer at Tweed Heads Seagulls. This means he will help grow rugby league in the community.
