History of CCU

National Chung Cheng University was created after Taiwan had a big period of economic growth in the 1980s. The government wanted to improve higher education in the Yunlin, Chiayi, and Tainan areas. So, in 1986, they decided to build a new university in Chiayi.

This new university was designed to be very strong in research. It was named after Chiang Kai-shek, an important leader in Taiwan's history. The university officially opened its doors on July 1, 1989. Lin Ching-Jiang was the first president, leading the university in its early years.
