The Story of National Corndog Day
How It Started
National Corndog Day began in 1992. Two friends, Brady Sahnow and Henry Otley, started it in Corvallis, Oregon. Their first celebration was simple. It was just about eating corn dogs and watching basketball games.
Growing the Celebration
Over the years, the celebration grew. They added Tater Tots and beer to the fun. Soon, National Corndog Day spread to many other cities. Today, big companies help support it. These include Foster Farms, a chicken producer, and PBR, a beer company. Jones Soda also helps out.
The event is now managed by a group of leaders. These leaders, called "city captains," organize parties in different cities across the United States.
Spreading Across the World
By 2007, National Corndog Day parties were held in 113 places. These were in over 30 U.S. states and the District of Columbia. The celebration even reached Australia. In 2008, the number of parties grew even more. Nearly 5,000 parties happened on five different continents! One party was even at McMurdo Station in Antarctica.
In 2009, there were about 400 parties on March 21st. That same year, a musician named Ben Brennan wrote a special theme song for National Corndog Day. He won a contest for his song.
