National Dunking Association facts for kids
The National Dunking Association was a fun group started by The Doughnut Corporation of America in the 1930s. Its main goal was to help make doughnuts super popular across North America.
At its busiest time, the association said it had millions of members! These members were part of more than 300 local groups, called chapters. Famous actors, athletes, important political figures, and people of all ages joined in the fun.
What They Did
Members were encouraged to eat doughnuts using special instructions called the Official Dunking Rules. These rules were a step-by-step guide for how to dunk a doughnut perfectly. The rules were lighthearted and even called dunking a "sport"! They told members to break their doughnut in half first. Then, they would rhythmically swish it in coffee, cocoa, tea, or milk.
The association also held different events all about doughnuts. They even had a big yearly meeting in New York City.
