The National Emblem of Bangladesh (Bengali: বাংলাদেশের জাতীয় প্রতীক Bangladesher Jatiyô Pratik) is a special symbol for the country of Bangladesh. It is used by the Government of Bangladesh and its different offices. You can see this important emblem on official government papers and on money in Bangladesh. It helps everyone know that a document or item is from the government.
What is the National Emblem of Bangladesh?
This special emblem was chosen shortly after Bangladesh became an independent country in 1971. In the middle of the emblem, you will see a beautiful water lily. This water lily is surrounded on both sides by bundles of rice stalks.
Above the water lily, there are three jute leaves that are connected together. On each side of these jute leaves, there are two stars, making a total of four stars. Each part of the emblem has a special meaning for the country.
What the Symbols Mean
Each part of the National Emblem tells a story about Bangladesh:
- The water lily is the national flower of Bangladesh. It represents the many rivers and waterways that flow through the country.
- The rice bundles show that rice is the main food for people in Bangladesh. They also stand for the importance of farming in the nation.
- The jute leaves represent jute, which is a very important crop grown in Bangladesh.
- The four stars stand for four important ideas that Bangladesh was built upon. These ideas are nationalism, socialism, democracy, and secularism. These principles are written in the country's Constitution.
