National Fascist Party facts for kids
The National Fascist Party was a big political party that ruled Italy from 1922 to 1943. Benito Mussolini started this party in 1919. He was its leader, called the Chairman, until 1943.
The party became powerful after Mussolini led thousands of his followers, called Blackshirts, on a march to Rome. This march made King Victor Emmanuel III choose Mussolini as the Prime Minister.
As Prime Minister, Mussolini took full control. He banned all other political parties. This made Italy a one-party state, where only his party was allowed. It was also a police state, meaning the government used police to control people's lives. This lasted until 1943. In that year, Mussolini was removed from power by his own people and arrested by the King. After his arrest, the National Fascist Party was ended.

Republican Fascist Party
In 1943, German soldiers, sent by Adolf Hitler, rescued Mussolini from prison. Mussolini then became the leader of a new government called the Italian Social Republic. This new party was called the Republican Fascist Party.
However, this new government was a puppet state. This means that Germany, led by the Nazis, was really in charge. Mussolini was killed by Italian citizens in 1945. After his death, the Republican Fascist Party was also ended and made illegal.
