Boone Bridge

The Boone Bridge carried old U.S. Route 30 over the Des Moines River near Boone. It was listed in 1998. Another bridge, Boone Bridge 2, is on 200th Street, also over the Des Moines River. These bridges were vital for travel and trade in the region.

Boone Viaduct (Kate Shelley High Bridge)

One of the most famous structures is the Boone Viaduct, also known as the Kate Shelley High Bridge. It is located west of Boone. This huge railroad bridge was added to the National Register in 1978. It's famous for the heroic story of Kate Shelley, a young girl who saved a train from disaster in 1881. The bridge is an amazing feat of engineering for its time.
