Bulloch County Courthouse

The Bulloch County Courthouse is a very important building in Statesboro, located on Courthouse Square. It was built a long time ago and has been the center of local government for many years. It was added to the National Register on September 18, 1980.

Dr. Madison Monroe Holland House

Another interesting home is the Dr. Madison Monroe Holland House at 27 South Main Street. This house was recognized for its historical value on September 6, 1989.

Jaeckel Hotel

The Jaeckel Hotel at 50 East Main Street was once a busy hotel. Today, this historic building serves as the Statesboro City Hall! It joined the National Register on June 17, 1982.

The John A. McDougald House at 121 South Main Street is another beautiful historic home. It was listed on June 21, 1982. Today, it's known as the [Beaver House Restaurant], so you can even visit and dine in a piece of history!

The William G. Raines House at 106 South Main Street was added to the list on August 31, 1987. This house is now known as the [The Historic Statesboro Inn], offering a chance to stay in a historic setting.

The Savannah Avenue Historic District includes homes along Savannah Avenue and East Grady Street. This residential area was listed on November 15, 1996.

Bulloch County also has important historic sites outside of Statesboro, in smaller towns like Portal and Register.

Portal's Historic Sites

Stewart Stores

The Stewart Stores are located at the junction of Railroad Street and Grady Street in Portal. These old stores were important for the town's economy. They were listed on May 20, 1993. As of 2016, only one of the original stores, known as the Portal Drugstore, was still standing.

Dr. James A. Stewart House

Also in Portal, the Dr. James A. Stewart House on Grady Street is a historic home. It was added to the National Register on May 27, 1993.

Dr. John C. Nevil House

The Dr. John C. Nevil House is located south of Register on US 301. This historic home was listed on August 10, 1989.

William W. Olliff Farm

The William W. Olliff Farm on New Hope Road near Register is another historic property. It was added to the National Register on December 4, 1987.

Metter's Historic Sites

Upper Lott's Creek Primitive Baptist Church and Cemetery

Near Metter, the Upper Lott's Creek Primitive Baptist Church and Cemetery is a significant historic site. It's located at Metter-Portal Highway and Westside Road and was listed on December 4, 2008.
