Historic Places in Sanborn County

• G.A. Mathews House: This house is located at 423 8th Street in Brookings. It was added to the list in 1986.
• St. Scholastica Catholic Church: You can find this church on the western side of 4th Street in Letcher. It became a historic place in 1994.
• St. Scholastica Rectory: Right next to the church, also on the western side of 4th Street in Letcher, is the rectory (the priest's house). It was listed in 1994, at the same time as the church.
• Woonsocket State Bank: This bank building is at 201 S. Dumont Avenue in Woonsocket. It was added to the list in 2002.

Important Sites and Bridges

• Site 39SB15: This is an archaeological site near Mitchell. Its exact address is kept secret to protect it from harm. It was listed in 1984.
• Site 39SB18: Another archaeological site, this one is near Forestburg. Like Site 39SB15, its location is not shared to keep it safe. It was listed in 1984.
• Site 39SB31: Also near Forestburg, this is a third archaeological site with a restricted address. It was added to the list in 1984.
• South Dakota Dept. of Transportation Bridge No. 56-090-096: This bridge is on a local road over Sand Creek near Forestburg. It was recognized as a historic structure in 1993.

Places No Longer on the List

Sometimes, a place might be removed from the National Register of Historic Places. This can happen if the building is changed too much, or if it is destroyed.

• South Dakota Department of Transportation Bridge No. 56-117-123: This bridge near Forestburg was listed in 1993 but was removed from the list in 2008.
• South Dakota Department of Transportation Bridge No. 56-174-090: This bridge, located on a local road over Redstone Creek near Artesian, was listed in 1993 but removed in 1999.
