Naya Waters Inc. is a Canadian company that bottles natural spring water. This water comes from a special spring in the Laurentian Mountains in southern Quebec, Canada. You can find this water sold under the brand name Naya.
The name Naya comes from Naiads. These were spirits in Greek mythology who looked after fresh water places like springs and streams.
In March 2021, Naya Waters became a company fully owned and run by people from Quebec again. This happened after it was bought by Champlain Financial Corporation and GefCo.
The Story of Naya Waters
The people who started Naya searched for five years to find the perfect spring. They finally found the Naya spring at the bottom of the Laurentian Mountains in Mirabel, Quebec. This town is just north of Montreal.
In 1986, a bottling plant was built right next to the spring. This made sure the water could be bottled very close to where it came from. Since August 1995, Naya has also bottled water in Revelstoke, British Columbia. This plant is located in the Selkirk Mountains.
Where Does Naya Water Come From?
The Naya spring is in Mirabel, Quebec, at the foot of the Laurentian mountains. These mountains have underground water storage areas called aquifers. These aquifers have formed over millions of years. Naya water is taken from an aquifer that is more than 30 metres (about 100 feet) deep.
Caring for the Environment
Naya says it is working to reduce its carbon footprint. This means they want to lower the amount of greenhouse gases they release into the air.
Recently, Naya started using bottles made from 100% recycled plastic. This type of plastic is called rPET. Before this, Naya had already started using bottles with 25% recycled plastic in 2008. Soon after, they increased this to 50% recycled plastic.
As of 2008[update], Naya has given 1% of its total sales each year to help protect the environment. They do this through a group called One Percent for the Planet. These funds help many projects. One important project is the "NAYA Waterways Fund." This fund works to make water habitats in cities healthy again. They do this with a group called the Fondation de la Faune du Québec (Quebec Wildlife Foundation).
