Naya Waters Inc. is a Canadian company. It bottles natural spring water from a special spring. This spring is found in the Laurentian Mountains in southern Quebec. The water is sold under the brand name Naya.
The name Naya comes from Greek Mythology. The Naiads were spirits who looked after fresh water sources. These included springs and streams.
In March 2021, Naya Waters became a 100% Québec-owned company again. This happened when Champlain Financial Corporation and GefCo bought it.
Naya's Story: How It Began
Naya's founders looked for five years to find the perfect spring. They finally found the Naya spring at the bottom of the Laurentians. This was in Mirabel, just north of Montreal.
In 1986, they opened a bottling plant right there. This made sure the water was bottled very close to its source. Since August 1995, NAYA has also bottled water in Revelstoke, British Columbia. This second plant is in the Selkirk Mountains.
Where Naya Water Comes From
The Naya spring is in Mirabel, Quebec. It is at the foot of the Laurentian mountains. These mountains have aquifers, which are underground layers of rock or sand that hold water. These aquifers formed over millions of years.
Naya water is taken from an aquifer that is more than 30 metres deep. This ensures the water is pure and natural.
Caring for Our Planet
Naya says it is dedicated to reducing its carbon footprint. A carbon footprint is the total amount of greenhouse gases released by an organization. Naya recently started using bottles made from 100% recycled plastic. This type of plastic is called rPET (recycled polyethylene terephthalate).
Before this, Naya introduced bottles with 25% recycled plastic in 2008. Soon after, they used bottles with 50% recycled plastic.
Since 2008, Naya has worked with One Percent for the Planet. Through this partnership, Naya donates 1% of its total sales each year. These donations go to programs that help protect the environment.
One of these programs is the "NAYA Waterways Fund." This fund helps to make water habitats in cities healthy again. It is part of a partnership with the Fondation de la Faune du Québec (Quebec Wildlife Foundation).
