Saint Nebridius was an important religious leader who lived a long time ago. He was a bishop in two different cities in Spain: Egara (now called Terrassa) and Barcelona. His special day, called a feast day, is celebrated on February 9th each year.
Who Was Saint Nebridius?
Nebridius was born in a place called Girona. He came from a family where many people were religious leaders. Tradition says he had three brothers who were also saints! They were Saint Justus, Saint Elpidius, and Saint Justinian.
A Smart and Holy Man
Nebridius was very smart and loved to learn. He spent a lot of time studying the Bible, which Christians call the Scriptures. He wrote down his ideas and explanations about these holy texts. He also wrote a book about church songs, called In cantica canticorum. Nebridius was a Benedictine, which means he was part of a special group of monks who follow the rules of Saint Benedict.
His Time as Bishop
Nebridius served as bishop of Egara (Terrassa) from 516 to 527 AD. Later, he became the bishop of Barcelona, serving from about 540 AD until around 547 AD. Bishops are important leaders in the Christian church, guiding their communities.
