Early Life and Education
Price grew up in Dallas, Texas. He went to St. Mark's School of Texas. He then studied international relations at Georgetown University, where he graduated with high honors. He chose this field because he wanted to join the CIA after college. Later, he earned a master's degree from Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government.
Career in Government
Early in his career, Edward Price worked as an intelligence analyst for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). His main job was to help find and stop possible terrorist attacks against the United States.
Later, he worked for the National Security Council. This group advises the President on national security and foreign policy. During this time, he was a spokesperson for the Council and a special assistant to President Barack Obama. Price wrote about his experiences working for President Obama in a book called West Wingers: Stories from the Dream Chasers, Change Makers, and Hope Creators Inside the Obama White House.
Leaving the CIA
In February 2017, Price wrote an article in The Washington Post. In the article, he explained his decision to leave the CIA. He felt he could not continue working there under the new presidential administration. He had served under both Republican and Democratic presidents before this.
Roles in the Biden Administration
On January 20, 2021, Edward Price became the Spokesperson for the United States Department of State in the Biden administration. In this role, he spoke for the U.S. government on foreign policy matters. He held this position until March 17, 2023.
After that, he became a Senior Advisor to the Secretary of State. In February 2024, President Biden appointed him to a new role. He became the Deputy to the U.S. Representative to the United Nations, Linda Thomas-Greenfield. He served in this role until January 2025.
