Elkland is a small town, called a borough, located just south of the New York state line. You can find it along Pennsylvania Route 49. It sits between Nelson Township and Osceola Township.

Nelson Village: A Relocated Community

The village of Nelson is in the eastern part of the township. It's located upstream from Cowanesque Lake. The original village of Nelson was moved in the late 1970s. This happened because of a big project to build the Cowanesque Dam.

The old village site is still there and you can visit it! You can hike along the Tompkins Trail at the dam project. As you walk, you might see old parts of the village, like what used to be the main street. Many of these old spots are near the Nelson Cemetery. This cemetery was once home to one of the two churches that were in the old village. One of these churches was moved to the new village location.
