Nemo Mettler (born August 3, 1999), known simply as Nemo, is a talented musician from Switzerland. They are a singer and rapper who can also play the violin, piano, and drums.
In 2024, Nemo made history by winning the Eurovision Song Contest for Switzerland with their song "The Code". This was a huge moment because Nemo was the first openly non-binary person to win the competition. A non-binary person is someone who does not identify as strictly male or female. Nemo's victory was Switzerland's third win in the contest's history.

Musical Journey
Early Start in Music
Nemo's love for music began at a very young age. When they were just three years old, they started learning to play the violin, piano, and drums. From age nine to thirteen, they also studied opera singing.
At age ten, Nemo performed in a children's opera production of The Magic Flute. This experience later inspired parts of their Eurovision-winning song, "The Code". By thirteen, Nemo was also rapping and writing their own songs. They became known for their skills in battle rap competitions in Switzerland.
Becoming a Star in Switzerland
In 2015, Nemo released their first collection of songs, an EP called Clownfisch. It was a success and reached number 95 on the Swiss music charts. A year later, their song "Cypher" became very popular online.
In 2017, Nemo released more music, including the single "Du," which became a top 5 hit in Switzerland. That same year, they won an award for Best Talent from a major Swiss radio station. In 2018, they won four Swiss Music Prizes, including Best Song for "Du."
A New Chapter in English
After spending time in Los Angeles in 2020, Nemo decided to start writing and singing songs in English instead of Swiss German. In 2021, they appeared on the Swiss version of the TV show The Masked Singer Switzerland, performing as a panda and finishing in fifth place.
On February 29, 2024, it was announced that Nemo would represent Switzerland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2024. They performed their song "The Code" and won the entire contest on May 11 with 591 points. This made them the first non-binary artist to win Eurovision.
Personal Life
Nemo Mettler was born in Biel/Bienne, a city in Switzerland. Their father, Markus Mettler, is an inventor, and their mother, Nadja Schnetzler, is a journalist. Nemo's sister, Ella, is a photographer who helps with the artistic side of their music projects.
The name "Nemo" means "no one" in Latin. Nemo once explained, "my parents thought that if I was no-one, I could become anyone."
In November 2023, Nemo shared in a newspaper article that they are non-binary. This means they don't see themselves as just a boy or a girl. In English, Nemo uses they/them pronouns. Nemo currently lives in Berlin, Germany, to focus on their music career.
Speaking Up for Others
After winning Eurovision, Nemo used their new fame to talk about important issues. They asked the Swiss government to officially recognize non-binary people. In Switzerland, official documents only have "male" or "female" options. A government official, Beat Jans, agreed to meet with Nemo to talk about the rights of non-binary people in the country.
Nemo also spoke about the ongoing Gaza war. They called for Israel to be excluded from the Eurovision Song Contest 2025, saying that the country's actions did not match Eurovision's values of peace and unity.
