Nemo's Music Journey
Nemo's love for music started very early, at just three years old. They began learning to play the violin, piano, and drum machine. From ages nine to thirteen, they studied opera singing.
When Nemo was ten, they performed in a children's opera. It was Mozart's The Magic Flute, which later inspired their winning song, "The Code". At thirteen, they also acted in a musical called I've never been to New York.
Around this age, Nemo also started rapping. They joined Swiss rap contests and wrote their own songs. As a teenager, they became well-known in battle rap. They even appeared on a Swiss TV show called Die grössten Schweizer Talente , where judges praised their skills.
Early Music Releases
In 2015, Nemo released their first music collection, an EP called Clownfisch. It reached number 95 on the Swiss music charts. In 2016, when Nemo was seventeen, their song "Cypher" became very popular online.
In 2017, Nemo released two more EPs: Momänt-Kids and Fundbüro. The song "Du" from Fundbüro was a big hit, reaching number 4 in Switzerland. Other songs like "Ke Bock" and "Himalaya" also became popular.
That same year, Nemo studied jazz and pop singing at the Zurich University of the Arts. They also won the SRF 3 Best Talent prize. Later, they moved to Berlin to focus on their music career. In 2018, Nemo won four Swiss Music Prizes, including "best song of the year" for "Du".
Eurovision Success
After visiting Los Angeles in 2020, Nemo decided to start singing in English instead of Swiss German. In 2021, they appeared on the Swiss version of The Masked Singer Switzerland. They were dressed as a panda and finished in fifth place.
In 2022, Nemo released another EP called Whatever Feels Right. On February 29, 2024, it was announced that Nemo would represent Switzerland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2024. Their song was "The Code".
Nemo performed in the second semi-final on May 9. They then won the Eurovision final on May 11 with 591 points! This made them the first openly non-binary performer to win the contest. Their score was also the fourth highest in the history of the competition.
