Nemo Gould, born on October 3, 1975, is an American artist and sculptor. He is famous for making amazing moving sculptures from "found objects" – things people throw away! He also creates cool drawings and graphic art. Many of his sculptures are fun, strange creatures made from aluminum and wood, often looking like robots or sci-fi monsters. Another artist named Clayton Bailey was a big inspiration for him.

About Nemo Gould

Nemo Gould was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He grew up in Nevada City, California. He went to the Kansas City Art Institute and earned his first art degree in 1998. Both of his parents, Linda Webb Elfert and Arthur Gould, also studied art there. His mom was a potter, and his dad was a ceramic artist and sculptor. Later, Nemo Gould earned a master's degree in Fine Arts from the University of California-Berkeley. Today, he lives in Oakland, California, with his wife, Nancy Leung.

Where His Art Has Been Shown

Nemo Gould's unique art has been displayed in several museums. These include the San Jose Museum of Art, the Berkeley Art Museum, and the Arizona Museum for Youth. His work has also been featured in many national magazines and TV shows. You might have seen his art on the Discovery Channel, or in magazines like Wired, Travel and Leisure, Make, and the San Francisco Chronicle.

Creating Art from Recycled Items

In 2007, Nemo Gould was chosen for a special program at the Recology Solid Waste Transfer and Recycling Center. This is a big recycling center in the San Francisco Bay Area. Being an artist-in-residence there is a huge honor for artists who use found objects. It means they get free access to tons of discarded items collected every day at the dump. This gives artists like Nemo Gould a chance to find unique materials for their amazing sculptures.
