Francisco Borja Enrique Ayesa (born on January 20, 1974), known as Neru, is a Spanish former football player and coach. He mostly played as a central defender. Sometimes, he also played on the left side of the field.

Neru had a professional football career that lasted 17 years. During this time, he played in seven seasons of La Liga, which is Spain's top football league. He played a total of 127 games in La Liga. Most of his time was spent with Racing de Santander, where he played for six years. He also played one year with Sporting de Gijón.

Neru's Football Journey

Neru was born in Laredo, Cantabria, a town in Spain. He grew up playing football in the youth system of Racing de Santander, a well-known club. He joined the main team when he was 24 years old, during the 1998–99 season.

Over the next few years, Neru played in different defensive positions for Racing Santander. This included a season in the second division.

Playing for Sporting Gijón

In the 2004–05 season, Neru was loaned to Sporting de Gijón, another team in the Segunda División (second division). He was a key player for them that season. He even scored a goal on May 1, 2005, helping his team win 3–2 against Pontevedra CF.

After his loan, Neru went back to Racing Santander. He played 15 more games in La Liga during the 2005–06 season.

Later Career and Retirement

In January 2007, Neru became a free agent, meaning he could join any team. He spent six months with Cádiz CF, another second-division team. Then, in the summer of 2007, he rejoined Sporting Gijón. He played only four matches during the season when Sporting Gijón returned to the top league after 10 years.

In August 2009, when he was 35, Neru moved to Deportivo Alavés, a team in Segunda División B (division three). However, he had some disagreements with the team's management. Because of this, he was allowed to leave. In January 2010, he moved up a league to join SD Huesca for the rest of the season. He took the place of another player, Daniel Mustafá.

For the 2010–2011 season, Neru played for Pontevedra CF. After this season, he decided to retire from playing professional football.

Becoming a Coach

After his playing career, Neru started coaching. In the 2012–2013 season, he coached for Santoña CF. The next year, he became an assistant coach for SD Noja, working with Claudio Arzeno. He later coached for SD Gama and CD Bezana.

Neru's Life Outside Football

In 2011, Neru decided to get involved in local politics in his hometown of Laredo. He ran for office with the People's Party. However, he did not win the election.
