Nesco, also known as New Columbia, is a small community in New Jersey, USA. It's found in Mullica Township, which is part of Atlantic County. Nesco is about 6 miles (10 km) east of a town called Hammonton. You can find the New Columbia-Nesco United Methodist Church and the Nesco School here.

Nesco has an interesting history, including a story about a local legend.

Joe Mulliner: The "Robin Hood" of the Pines

A special plaque in Nesco tells the story of Joe Mulliner. People called him the "Robin Hood of the Pines." He was a person who supported England during the American Revolutionary War. He had to leave his home in Pleasant Mills because of this.

Mulliner and about 40 others formed a group. They hid on an island in the nearby Mullica River. From there, they would take things from local residents. However, they were known for not hurting anyone and not taking from people who were poor.

Joe Mulliner was eventually caught at the Indian Cabin Mill Inn in Nesco. He was put on trial in Burlington in 1781.

Early Industry and Growth

In 1845, a factory that made glass opened in New Columbia. This was an important business for the community.

By 1880, the population of New Columbia was 96 people. A post office was set up in New Columbia by 1892, which helped people send and receive mail.

The community's name officially changed from "New Columbia" to "Nesco" in 1897.
