Early Life and Education
Nessa Robins grew up in a town called Moate in County Westmeath, Ireland. Before she became a food writer, she trained to be a nurse. She studied nursing at St. James's Hospital, Dublin and later earned a bachelor's degree in nursing studies from Trinity College Dublin. She worked as a nurse in different areas for several years.
A Career in Food
In 2008, Nessa decided to take a break from nursing to follow her passion for food. She started teaching cookery classes in her hometown. She also gave live cooking demonstrations at many food festivals across Ireland. These included big events like Bloom and Taste of Dublin. She even cooked alongside famous Irish chef Neven Maguire at the National Ploughing Championships.
Nessa's Family Kitchen Blog
In 2010, Nessa launched her own food blog called Nessa's Family Kitchen. Her blog quickly became popular. In 2011, it won the 'Best Newcomer' award at the Irish Blog Awards.
Award-Winning Cookbook
Nessa's first book, Apron Strings: Recipes from a Family Kitchen, was published in May 2013. This cookbook was a big success! It won the 'Best First Cookbook' award in Ireland at the Gourmand Cookbook Awards. Today, Nessa writes a monthly column called Home Nurse for the Irish Farmers Journal. This column features recipes from her cookbook.
