The Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City, Nevada, is a cool place that saves and shows off Nevada's amazing railroad history. It has many old trains and cars, including some from the famous Virginia and Truckee Railroad. Guess what? A lot of the museum's trains were even used in Hollywood movies and TV shows!
The museum opened in 1980. It was first called the Virginia & Truckee Railroad Museum. Later, in 1985, it got its current name, the Nevada State Railroad Museum. The Nevada Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs runs the museum.
At the museum, you can ride historic trains! They have both 4 ft 8 1⁄2 in (1,435 mm) standard gauge (standard) and 3 ft (914 mm) (narrow) gauge trains. You can also try handcar rides, which are super fun. The museum also hosts talks, special events, and an annual meeting about railroad history. They even have changing exhibits.
The museum also works to research and fix up old trains. One special exhibit celebrates 150 years since the First transcontinental railroad was finished. It features V&T Coach No. 17. This coach once carried Leland Stanford to the important Golden spike ceremony in Utah.
The Wabuska Depot, an old train station from Wabuska, Nevada, was moved to the museum. This building is still used today! It's where you buy tickets for the museum's train rides.
