Wabuska is a small, unincorporated community in Lyon County, Nevada, United States. An unincorporated community means it's a place with a shared identity but no local government of its own. It shares the zip code 89447 with the nearby town of Yerington.
The name Wabuska comes from the Washo language and means White Grass. The community was started in the early 1870s. A post office opened there on September 18, 1874.
In 1881, Wabuska became an important supply center for the Mason Valley. This was because of the new Carson and Colorado Railroad. This railroad line connected Hazen to Mina. Later, when copper was found in Mason Valley, Wabuska became the northern end of the new Nevada Copper Belt Railroad. This second railroad was built between 1909 and 1911.
However, Wabuska started to decline in the 1920s. This happened as mining activity in the area decreased. Some buildings from Wabuska, like the old Wabuska Railroad Station, were moved to Carson City. They are now part of the Nevada State Railroad Museum.
