New Berlin (which means "New Berlin" in German) is a small village in Sangamon County, Illinois, United States. It's part of the larger Springfield area.
In 2020, about 1,381 people lived in New Berlin. The village is also home to New Berlin High School.
Geography
New Berlin is located in central Illinois. It covers an area of about 1.14 square miles (2.93 square kilometers). All of this area is land, with no large bodies of water.
The village is about 652 feet (199 meters) above sea level.

The population of New Berlin has changed over the years. In 1880, there were 403 people. By 2020, the population had grown to 1,381.
According to the 2000 census, there were 1,030 people living in the village. Most residents were White. About 32.7% of homes had children under 18. The average household had about 2.41 people. The median age in the village was 36 years old.
History
The area where New Berlin is located has a long history. In 1838, the Potawatomi Trail of Death passed through this region. This was a difficult journey for the Potawatomi people.
New Berlin village was officially started in 1865. It was founded by a group of immigrants, mostly from Germany. They built the first homes and businesses here. Today, only a few of the very old buildings from that time are still standing. You can find them along what used to be Illinois State Route 54.
Culture and Events
New Berlin is known for hosting the annual Sangamon County Fair. This fun event usually starts on the Wednesday before Father's Day weekend in June. It's a popular gathering for the community.

- New Berlin Area Veterans Memorial - This memorial was dedicated on July 6, 2013. It honors veterans from the area.
- Sangamon County Fairgrounds - This is where the annual county fair takes place.
