New Dover is a small community in Ohio, United States. It is not a city or town with its own government. Instead, it is an "unincorporated community." You can find it in Dover Township, which is part of Union County.
This community is located along U.S. Route 36. It is about three miles east of a bigger town called Marysville.
New Dover: A Look at Its History
New Dover was first known simply as Dover. The community was officially planned and mapped out in 1854. This process is called being "laid out and platted."
Early Days and Businesses
The New Dover Post Office opened its doors on February 5, 1856. By 1877, the village was quite busy. It had a good amount of manufacturing going on. The community also had one church and a school-house. You could find a harness shop and a blacksmith shop there too. Several other stores served the people living in New Dover.
Changes Over Time
The post office in New Dover eventually closed. This happened on April 30, 1935. Today, mail service for New Dover comes through the Marysville branch.
