New Holstein is a town in Calumet County, Wisconsin, in the United States. It's a place where about 1,534 people lived in 2020. This number was a little higher than in 2010, when 1,508 people lived there. Even though the City of New Holstein is inside the town, they are separate in how they are governed. Some smaller communities, like Meggers and St. Anna, are also partly in the town.

History of New Holstein

The town of New Holstein officially started a long time ago, on March 2, 1849. This was made possible by a special law in Wisconsin. A few months later, on June 25, 1849, the very first town meeting was held at Claus Oesau's house. At this meeting, the first leaders of the town were chosen. Charles Gruening became the chairman, and other people were elected as supervisors, a clerk, an assessor, and even "fenceviewers" to help with property lines.

Where is New Holstein?

The Town of New Holstein is located in the southeast corner of Calumet County. It shares its borders with other counties. To the east, it's next to Manitowoc County. To the south, you'll find Sheboygan County. Part of its western border is next to Fond du Lac County.

The City of New Holstein is right in the middle of the town. Also, part of the city of Kiel touches the town's eastern side. The town covers an area of about 82.2 square kilometers (which is about 31.7 square miles). Most of this area is land, with a small part being water.

People in New Holstein

In the year 2000, about 1,457 people lived in the town of New Holstein. These people lived in 539 different homes, and 438 of these were families. Most of the people living in the town were White.

About 34% of the homes had children under 18 living there. Most homes (about 73%) were married couples living together. About 15% of all homes were people living by themselves.

The population in the town was spread out by age. About 25% of the people were under 18 years old. Around 28% were between 45 and 64 years old, and about 12% were 65 or older. The average age of people in the town was 39 years old.
