How New Home Started
New Home was once part of a big ranch called the Deuce of Hearts. In the 1890s, parts of this ranch were divided into plots for people to settle. At first, the community was also called Deuce of Hearts. Later, its name was changed to New Home.
Farming began in the area around 1905 to 1910. By the 1930s, a clear community had formed. The economy of New Home has always depended on growing cotton. Cotton ginning, which separates cotton fibers from seeds, is also very important. For example, in 1985, the New Home Co-op Gin processed 12,000 bales of cotton.
