Nia Ali (born October 23, 1988) is an American track and field athlete. She is known for her skills in the 100-meter hurdles. She also competes in other events like the heptathlon.

Nia Ali won a silver medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics in the 100-meter hurdles. She became the World Champion in the 100-meter hurdles in 2019. She also won the world indoor championship twice in a row. These wins were in 2014 and 2016 for the 60-meter hurdles.

Nia Ali was a top athlete in college. She competed for the USC Trojans. In 2011, she was the best in the NCAA for the 100-meter hurdles. She won the NCAA championship in this event.

Before USC, she competed for the Tennessee Volunteers. There, she won a championship in the heptathlon. At USC, she was also recognized as an All-American. This means she was one of the best college athletes.

Becoming a Professional Athlete

Nia Ali started her professional career in track and field. She was chosen to represent the United States. She went to the World University Games in China. There, she won a gold medal in the 100-meter hurdles.

In 2013, she placed third in the 100-meter hurdles at the USA Championships. This allowed her to compete in the 2013 World Championships in Athletics. She reached the semi-finals, finishing 10th overall.

She won the 60-meter hurdles at the USA Indoor Championships in 2013. She won again in 2014 with an even faster time. This win qualified her for the 2014 IAAF World Indoor Championships. She won the gold medal there, running 7.80 seconds.

In 2015, Nia Ali took a break from competing. She had her son, Titus Maximus. She returned to the 2016 IAAF World Indoor Championships and won the gold medal again. After her victory, she carried her son with her on the victory lap.

Olympic and World Championship Success

In 2016, Nia Ali finished third in the 100-meter hurdles at the U.S. Olympic Trials. This earned her a spot on the U.S. team for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Brazil. At the Olympics, she won the silver medal.

The United States team made history that year. American women won gold, silver, and bronze in the 100-meter hurdles. This was the first time any country had swept the medals in this event. It was also the first time American women achieved a medal sweep in any Olympic track and field event.

In 2019, Nia Ali won another major title. She earned the gold medal in the 100-meter hurdles. This was at the IAAF World Championships in Doha, Qatar. She ran her personal best time of 12.34 seconds. This time made her one of the fastest hurdlers ever.
