Nia Ali, born on October 23, 1988, is an American athlete. She is famous for her skills in track and field events. Her main event is the 100-meter hurdles.
Nia won a silver medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics in the 100-meter hurdles. She also became the world champion in the 100-meter hurdles in 2019. She is a two-time world indoor champion in the 60-meter hurdles. She won these titles in Sopot (2014) and Portland (2016).

Early Life and School Years
Nia Ali grew up in the Germantown area of Philadelphia. She first went to West Catholic Preparatory High School. For her last year of high school, she moved to Pleasantville, New Jersey. She graduated from Pleasantville High School in 2006.

College Track and Field Achievements
During her time in college, Nia Ali was a top athlete. In 2011, she was the best in the NCAA for the 100-meter hurdles. She won the NCAA championship for the USC Trojans. Her winning time was 12.63 seconds.
Before joining USC, she competed for the Tennessee Volunteers. There, she won the Southeastern Conference championship in the heptathlon. At USC, she was recognized as an All-American in the heptathlon.
Professional Hurdles Success
Nia Ali was chosen to represent the United States in China. She competed at the World University Games in Shenzhen. There, she won a gold medal in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 12.85 seconds.
In 2013, Nia placed third in the 100-meter hurdles at the 2013 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. This allowed her to compete in the 2013 World Championships in Athletics. At the World Championships, she reached the semi-finals. She finished 10th overall in the 100-meter hurdles.
Nia won the 60-meter hurdles at the 2013 USA Indoor Track and Field Championships in New Mexico. She set a personal best time of 7.93 seconds. The next year, she won again with an even faster time of 7.80 seconds. This win qualified her for the 2014 World Indoor Championships. She won the gold medal there, running 7.80 seconds again.
In 2015, Nia took a break from competing. She welcomed her son, Titus Maximus. His father is hurdler Michael Tinsley. Nia returned to the sport in 2016. She successfully defended her gold medal at the 2016 World Indoor Championships. After her victory, she famously carried her son on her victory lap.
Nia finished third in the 100-meter hurdles at the 2016 United States Olympic Trials. Her time was 12.55 seconds. This qualified her to represent the United States at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Brazil. Later that year, she earned a silver medal at the Olympics. The United States made history at those Olympics. American women won gold, silver, and bronze in the 100-meter hurdles. This was the first time any country achieved such a sweep in this event.
In 2019, Nia Ali won the gold medal at the IAAF World Championships in Doha, Qatar. She set a new personal best time of 12.34 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles. This time made her one of the fastest hurdlers ever.
Personal Life and Family
Nia Ali has a son named Titus Maximus with American Olympian Michael Tinsley. Michael is also a track and field athlete. He specializes in the 400-meter hurdles. In June 2018, Nia had a daughter with her partner, Canadian Olympic sprinter Andre De Grasse. They welcomed their second child together in May 2021.
