Nicholas Hammond (born May 15, 1950) is an American and Australian actor and writer. He is famous for playing Friedrich von Trapp in the movie The Sound of Music. He also played Peter Parker/Spider-Man in The Amazing Spider-Man TV series from the 1970s.

Early Life and Education
Nicholas Hammond was born in Washington, D.C. on May 15, 1950. His father, Thomas West Hammond, Jr., was an American U.S. Army officer. His mother, Eileen Hammond, was English and had acted in a movie. Nicholas has an older brother named David.
His parents met and married in London during World War II. After the war, they moved to the U.S. Because his father was in the army, Nicholas's family moved many times. He went to Landon School in Maryland. Later, he graduated from Princeton University.
Acting Career Highlights
Nicholas Hammond started acting when he was 11 years old. His first role was in a Broadway play called The Complaisant Lover in 1961.
Around the same time, he filmed his first movie, Lord of the Flies (1963). After this, he got his most famous role. He played Friedrich von Trapp in the popular 1965 movie The Sound of Music. Friedrich was the older of the two boys in the Von Trapp family.
In 1970, Hammond began acting in adult roles. He appeared in the play Conduct Unbecoming. In 1972, he was in the movie Skyjacked. He also made guest appearances on popular TV shows. These included The Brady Bunch in 1973 and The Waltons. He also acted in daytime soap operas like General Hospital and Hawaii Five-O.
Playing Spider-Man
From 1977 to 1979, Nicholas Hammond played Peter Parker/Spider-Man. This was for The Amazing Spider-Man TV series. He was the first actor to play Peter Parker in a live-action TV show.
Hammond wanted to make Spider-Man feel like a real person. He said he was not interested in making the show a joke. The series aired on CBS and had 13 episodes. A pilot movie came out in 1977. The show was popular, but CBS did not give it a regular time slot. When Spider-Man did stunts, a stunt double was used.
Later Career and Life in Australia
After Spider-Man ended, Hammond appeared in many TV shows in the early 1980s. These included The Love Boat, Magnum, P.I., and Murder, She Wrote. He also had roles on Falcon Crest and Dallas.
In 1986, he played yachtsman Dennis Conner in an Australian TV miniseries called The Challenge. He liked Australia so much that he decided to stay. He later became an Australian citizen.
Since moving to Australia, he has acted in many Australian TV shows and miniseries. He played an American WWII officer in Fields of Fire. He also starred as Sir Ivor Creevy-Thorne in Mirror, Mirror. Hammond has been in shows like The Flying Doctors and Farscape.
In 2005, he played TV producer Aaron Spelling in a TV movie. This movie was about the making of the show Dynasty.
Nicholas Hammond is also a writer for Australian television. He wrote the miniseries A Difficult Woman. In 2009, he directed his first play, which he also helped write.
In 2019, he played director Sam Wanamaker in the movie Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
Personal Life
Nicholas Hammond married Laura Soli in 1980. They divorced in 1984. He moved to Australia in the mid-1980s. He now lives in Sydney with Australian actress Robyn Nevin.
He has stayed good friends with the actors who played his siblings in The Sound of Music. They have even worked together on campaigns.
