Early Life
Nicholas Hammond was born in Washington, D.C. His father, Thomas West Hammond, Jr., was an officer in the U.S. Army. His mother, Eileen Hammond, was an English actress. Because his father was in the army, Nicholas's family moved around the country a lot when he was a child.
He went to the Landon School in Maryland and later graduated from the prestigious Princeton University.
Acting Career
Hammond began his acting career when he was just 11 years old. He appeared in a Broadway play called The Complaisant Lover in 1961.
Famous Roles as a Young Actor
Soon after his stage debut, Hammond starred in the 1963 movie Lord of the Flies. Two years later, he landed his most famous role as Friedrich von Trapp in the 1965 musical film The Sound of Music. He played the oldest of the von Trapp boys.

Hammond said he wanted to make the character of Spider-Man a believable person, not just a silly comic book character. The show was popular, but it only ran for 13 episodes over two seasons. While Hammond played Peter Parker, a stunt person did most of the action scenes when Spider-Man was in costume.
Later Career
After Spider-Man, Hammond continued to act in many TV shows during the 1980s, including The Love Boat, Magnum, P.I., and Murder, She Wrote.
In 1986, he acted in an Australian TV series called The Challenge. He enjoyed his time in Australia so much that he decided to move there. He later became an Australian citizen. He has since appeared in many Australian shows and movies, such as the science fiction series Farscape.
