Where Are They?
The Nichols Islands are in the western part of the Coronation Gulf. They are located south of a much larger island called Victoria Island. These islands are also part of the huge Canadian Arctic Archipelago. This is a group of many islands in the Arctic Ocean.
Other islands nearby include Blaze Island and Seven Mile Island. You can also find Kigirktaryuk Island, Onitkok Island, and the Couper Islands close by.
The closest community to the Nichols Islands is Kugluktuk. This town used to be called Coppermine. It is about 8 kilometers (5 miles) to the southwest of the islands.
Uninhabited Islands
The Nichols Islands are known for being uninhabited. This means that no people live on them permanently. Many islands in the Canadian Arctic are uninhabited. This is because the weather is very cold and harsh. It can be difficult for people to live there all year round.
