Nicholas Carl Boynton, born on January 14, 1979, is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player. He was a defenceman, which means he played a defensive role on the ice. He played for 11 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) with several teams. These included the Boston Bruins and Chicago Blackhawks. After retiring from playing, he worked as a radio announcer for the Arizona Coyotes.

Nick Boynton's Hockey Journey
Early Hockey Days
Nick Boynton started playing hockey in his hometown of Nobleton, Ontario. He played for the NobleKing Knights. He even played in a big tournament called the Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament in 1992. When he was 15, he joined a junior league team, the Caledon Canadians.
He then played four great seasons for the Ottawa 67's in the OHL. In his last junior year, he scored 59 points in 51 games. This showed he was a very strong player.
Joining the NHL
Nick was first chosen by the Washington Capitals in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft. But they didn't agree on a contract. So, he went back into the draft in 1999. He was then picked by the Boston Bruins. He played for the Bruins until the 2005-06 season.
His best season with the Bruins was 2003-04. He scored 30 points that year. During the NHL lockout season in 2004-05, Nick played for the Nottingham Panthers in the British Elite Ice Hockey League. He famously scored a goal that tied the game in the British Championship Grand Final.
Moving to Other Teams
On June 26, 2006, Nick was traded to the Phoenix Coyotes. He played two seasons with them. Then, on June 20, 2008, he was traded again. This time he went to the Florida Panthers. He had a good season in 2008-09, scoring 21 points in 68 games. During that season, he was sent home from a road trip for disciplinary reasons. This was after an argument with his coach.
On July 9, 2009, he signed a one-year contract with the Anaheim Ducks. After playing 42 games, he was sent to their minor league team, the Manitoba Moose.
Winning the Stanley Cup
On March 2, 2010, Nick was traded to the Chicago Blackhawks. He was first sent to their minor league team, the Rockford IceHogs. Later, he was called up to the Blackhawks. He played his first game with them on March 17, 2010. On June 9, 2010, he achieved a huge dream. He won his first Stanley Cup with the Chicago Blackhawks!
After that amazing win, Nick was claimed by the Philadelphia Flyers on February 26, 2011. He played ten games with them to finish the 2010-11 season. He retired from playing hockey after that season.
Nick Boynton's Life Off the Ice
Nick Boynton got married on August 3, 2012, to Jen Boynton. They have two children together. Nick also has two daughters from a previous relationship.
Before his first NHL training camp, Nick was diagnosed with Type I Diabetes. However, this health condition did not stop him from playing hockey at a professional level. Nick has also talked about the mental and emotional challenges of playing in the NHL.
