Early Life and High School
Nick Brossette grew up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He attended University High School. He was a highly-rated football player, known as a "4-star recruit." This means many colleges wanted him to play for their team. On August 23, 2013, Nick decided to commit to LSU.
College Football Career
Nick played college football at LSU. During his first three years (freshman, sophomore, and junior seasons), he did not play much. This was because there were other very talented running backs on the team. These players included Leonard Fournette and Derrius Guice.
However, in his senior year, Nick got more chances to play. He made the most of it! He ran for 1,039 yards. He also scored 14 touchdowns. This was a great season for him.
Professional Football Career
After college, Nick hoped to join the NFL. He was not chosen in the 2019 NFL draft. This means he was an "undrafted free agent." But teams can still sign players who were not drafted.
New England Patriots
On April 29, 2019, the New England Patriots signed Nick. He joined them as an undrafted free agent. During his first preseason game against the Detroit Lions, he ran for 66 yards. He also scored a touchdown. Nick finished the preseason with 200 rushing yards and three touchdowns. However, the Patriots decided to release him on August 31, 2019.
Detroit Lions
After leaving the Patriots, Nick joined the Detroit Lions. He was signed to their practice squad on September 12, 2019. A practice squad is where players train with the team but are not on the main roster. He was released the same day but then signed again on September 18, 2019. He was released by the Lions once more on September 24, 2019.
DC Defenders
In December 2019, Nick was signed by the DC Defenders. This team was part of the XFL, another professional football league. On February 23, 2020, he played against the Los Angeles Wildcats. In that game, he rushed for 75 yards and scored his first XFL touchdown. He finished the short season with 87 rushing yards. The XFL league stopped playing games on April 10, 2020. Because of this, Nick's contract ended.
Current Role
After his football playing career, Nick Brossette returned to LSU. Since 2022, he has been the Director of Alumni Relations. In this role, he helps connect former LSU students and athletes with the university.
