Nicholas Raymond Plummer (born July 31, 1996) is an American professional baseball player. He plays as an outfielder. An outfielder is a player who fields in the outfield, which is the area of the baseball field farthest from home plate. Nick has played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the New York Mets. He is currently a free agent, meaning he is not signed with any team.
Nick was chosen by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 2015 MLB draft. This is when professional teams pick young players to join their organization. He spent seven years playing in their minor league system. Minor leagues are like training leagues for baseball players. After that, he joined the Mets in 2021.

Nick Plummer's Early Baseball Days
Nick Plummer went to Brother Rice High School in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. He started playing on the varsity baseball team when he was a freshman. A freshman is a student in their first year of high school.
When he was a junior, which is his third year, he was a fantastic hitter. He hit for a .573 batting average. This means he got a hit almost 57% of the time he tried to hit the ball. He also hit eight home runs and had 34 runs batted in (RBIs). An RBI means he helped a teammate score a run.
In 2015, a group called the American Baseball Coaches Association named him the best high school player in the country. Nick had planned to play college baseball at the University of Kentucky.
Starting His Pro Journey: St. Louis Cardinals
Nick Plummer was seen as one of the best young players for the 2015 Major League Baseball draft. The St. Louis Cardinals picked him as the 23rd player overall. He signed a contract with them on June 15, getting a $2.124 million bonus.
He spent his first year playing in the minor leagues for the Gulf Coast League Cardinals. This team is at the Rookie-level, which is the lowest level of professional baseball. He played in 51 games. He hit for a .228 batting average. He also hit eight doubles, one home run, and had 22 RBIs. A double is when a player hits the ball and reaches second base safely.
Before the 2016 season, Baseball America magazine said he was the eighth-best young player in the Cardinals' system. Sadly, he missed all of the 2016 season because he had surgery on his hand.
He came back to play in 2017 for the Peoria Chiefs. This team is in Class A, which is a step up from Rookie-level. He had a .198 batting average with four home runs and 17 RBIs in 92 games.
Plummer played for Peoria again in 2018. He hit for a .205 batting average with eight home runs and 30 RBIs in 104 games. In 2019, he moved up to the Palm Beach Cardinals. This team is in Class A-Advanced. He had a .176 batting average with five home runs and 29 RBIs in 96 games. The 2020 baseball season was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Nick started the 2021 season with the Springfield Cardinals. This team plays in Double-A Central, which is another step up in the minor leagues. On July 8, he had an amazing game. He hit three home runs! One of them was a two-run walk-off home run. A walk-off home run means he hit it in the last inning, and it won the game for his team. He was only the second Springfield player ever to hit three home runs in one game.
The St. Louis Cardinals named him their Player of the Month for July. He hit for a .326 batting average that month. He also hit six home runs, five doubles, and one triple. A triple is when a player hits the ball and reaches third base safely. He had 21 RBIs and got on base safely in all 24 games that month.
On August 7, he set a new record for Springfield. He got on base in his 33rd game in a row. This beat the old record of 32 games. On August 23, he was moved up to the Memphis Redbirds. This team plays in Triple-A East, which is the highest level of the minor leagues. He had a .283 batting average with 13 home runs and 46 RBIs. After the season, he became a free agent. This means he could sign with any team he wanted.
Big League Dreams: New York Mets
On November 24, 2021, Nick Plummer signed a one-year contract with the New York Mets. This was a major league deal, meaning he could play in the MLB.
Nick made his Major League debut with the Mets on April 15, 2022. This was his first time playing in a real MLB game. It happened at Citi Field against the Arizona Diamondbacks. He entered the game in the ninth inning. He was a defensive replacement for another player, Starling Marte, in right field. A defensive replacement means he came in just to play defense.
Two days later, he had his first Major League plate appearance. This is when a player gets a chance to bat. On April 18, he was sent back to the minor leagues. This happened when another player, Brandon Nimmo, returned from the injured list. The injured list is where players go when they are hurt.
He was called back up to the Mets on May 28. On May 29, Nick hit his first Major League hit! It was a game-tying home run in the bottom of the ninth inning against the Philadelphia Phillies. This means his home run tied the game in the very last inning. He was the 14th player in Mets history to hit a home run for their first career hit.
He hit a home run in his second straight game against the Washington Nationals. This made him the first player in Mets history to hit a home run in each of his first two career starts. On August 16, 2022, Plummer was designated for assignment. This means the team took him off their main roster. He then went back to the Triple-A Syracuse Mets. He became a free agent again on November 10.
A New Team: Cincinnati Reds
On February 3, 2023, Nick Plummer signed a minor league contract with the Cincinnati Reds. However, he was released by the Reds on March 27. This means they let him go from their team.
